"When I read Winning Bet, I felt excited, mad, and sorry for Emma. I felt excited because when Emma competes I always want her to win, and also when Emma saves Caitlin's life it has a lot of action. I feel mad that Caitlin is so mean. I also feel sorry for Emma because she gets in trouble, her horse is about to get sold, and Caitlin is so mean to her.
My favorite part of the book was when Emma saved Caitlin's life. It was my favorite part because it had action and it showed she cared."

"... a delightful story about a young girl who must show her horse ... and win a blue ribbon before the girl’s father follows through with his threat to send the horse to a slaughterhouse. It is highly recommended for young horse lovers.”
-- Nan Hansford, The Coloradoan
"... I thoroughly enjoyed your book. What a great story. It brought back many fond memories of my children's 4-H days. I have recommended it to my current 4-Hers and am purchasing copies for my daughter and sisters, all of whom are teachers, for their schools."
-- Debbie Dehn, 4-H leader, former teacher
"I was happy when Emma got second place, I was sad when Ray Duncan put Bonnie up for sale, I was mad when Caitlin laughed at Emma when she fell off Bonnie. Lastly, I was nervous when Mr. Duncan almost ran over Misha. This is a great book ..."

"I can't get the thought out of my mind - the slaughterhouse. I couldn't imagine Emma's losing Bonnie."

"My favorite passage is on pg. 144. I like it because her family and Emma are all happy and overjoyed because she won her first blue ribbon with Bonnie Blue, who always messes up for some reason. Bonnie Blue is a type of horse who always senses weird things."

"A must read for the young ladies involved in 4-H horse projects. As a former horse show "Mom" and grandmother of horse-oriented youth, I felt I was reliving a couple of chapters in my earlier life, not to mention occasionally being on the edge of my chair as the story unfolds."
